Believe it or not, I’ve never worked retail before so I don’t reeeally know how it works. Buuut I just asked my co-workers and they said that generally if it’s a huge chain (which Forever 21 is) it could be a good position to learn from b/c you’ll probably be sent store to store.
Buuut from a styling perspective… none of the stylists I know or have worked with really needed to take this route. Sure it will help to gain experience as a stylist, but a job like this is a commitment, so it may not leave you room to explore other options or smaller styling gigs. Then again, with such a shitty economy, shutting the doors on a job offer is almost unheard of. So I say this… if the money is good, take it, but still actively pursue other, less corporate, styling gigs!

Heaven in a glass. Who knew? My girl Ashley g-chatted this to me today and immediately I thought a) how have I never had this before? and b) how have I never been to this site before? This genius of a drink was concocted by the lovely ladies of Fashionably Bombed (bookmarked faster than I could type “bookmark”). Consider this added to my list of things to do this weekend.
Bubble Gum Mojito
Makes 1
3 ounces Bubble Gum-Infused Vodka
1 ounce freshly squeezed lime juice
1 ounce simple syrup
A dash of grenadine (for color)
Club soda
Ice
Combine lime juice, simple syrup, and mint leaves in a highball glass and muddle ingredients together. Then add Bubble Gum-Infused Vodka and stir. Add crushed ice and top off with club soda and a dash of grenadine.Bubble Gum-Infused Vodka
Makes 1 cup
10 pieces of Double Bubble Bubble Gum
1 cup vodka
Roughly chop gum and place into a jar with a lid. Add vodka and cover. Let sit for at least 24 hours. Shake before using.

hmmm…. moving to california on a budget is like an oxymoron. know this, it’s EXPENSIVE AS ALL HELL to live in this state.
i dont really have advice though b/c i’ve lived in cali my whole life, so i dont have experience “moving” here. just make sure you save save save before you move here. and if you have a car, prepare to get parking tickets. there is no escaping parking tickets in los angeles. lol, not sure if i was of any help! lol!

the job market is tough in los angeles. it’s all about who you know, and even that sometimes isn’t enough. my best advice to you is to intern at a firm or job of interest. get your feet wet in the industry that interests you b/c you may find that once youre there, it wasn’t what you thought it would be. so internships help you test the waters in addition to helping you meet people and network. if you want to work in fashion, try fashioninternships.com (or something like that). I would also suggest being proactive. google firms and showrooms and walk in there with your resume and say youre interested in interning. they’ll appreciate youre eagerness to work.
most internships last about 3 months. if you’re lucky, they’ll hire you thereafter, but that isn’t too common. you may have to have a few internships under your belt or find a way to gain more experience before you land the gig you really want. as long as youre willing to grind it out, you’ll make it to the top. the sooner you realize that nothing is handed to you, the better.

i couldn’t break it down if i tried. there’s a lot involved with what i do so theres no definitive answer, but in a nutshell i’m a digital media manager. my job combines social media, pr, & marketing for clients in entertainment, film, & fashion.
as for how i got where i am… i’ve been in the social media game since before it was a “thing” (had a blog on xanga back in 03 and joined FB in 04). so that combined with my pr background and writing background has afforded me my position today.
inspirations? man, everyday is an inspiration. the people around me, all of the young creatives in LA inspire me. art, fashion, music, allathat inspires me. my mother inspires me. my struggle has inspired me. strong successful latinas inspire me. y’all with your emails and messages of love and kudos inspire me. i can go on for everrrr. ;)
