Soo… I just got home from a screening of the movie Lola Versus (thanks Hello Giggles & co.) and felt this magnetic urgency to come home and just write. WRITE. I mean, I used to write all the damn time back when my blog was poppin on blogspot, but life got in the way of me writing about, well, LIFE. Go figure. Anywho, the movie? Go see that when it comes out. So good in soo many ways.

There’s a lot to the story, but the transparent message was really finding yourself, growing into yourself, loving yourself, and putting yourself first. Late 20s are such an interesting time in a person’s life. The past feels like yesterday, and tomorrow is scarily close while still being terribly far. These last 12 months of my life have been a whirlwind. So many changes, epiphanies, realizations, & blurred clarity. Yes, blurred clarity. An oxymoron of sorts, but if it makes sense to you, then you get it. You just get it.

Friends became strangers. Strangers became friends. Planned paths had closed roads. And alternate routes became preferred paths. Life has a funny way of working; its perplexities more intense then a color blind person attempting to solve the algorithm of a rubik’s cube. Awwe yes, life… she’s a funny lil bitch.

Through all of this coming of age shit, one thing hasn’t changed and will always remain true… everything happens for a reason. Everything.

Learning to take each day as it comes and finding the message and value of each day is key. I don’t have it all figured out. I don’t think anyone ever really does. Because if you did, what fun would you have to look forward to in tomorrow?

Part of the joy is figuring it out. Nobody said it would be easy.

I got offered a job at forever 21 as a visual merchandiser, im nervouse if i should take it or not. i want the job but i just dont know if visual merchandising will be something im good at as far as styling and making outfits for the store. Do you have any advise on what you think i should do?!

Believe it or not, I’ve never worked retail before so I don’t reeeally know how it works. Buuut I just asked my co-workers and they said that generally if it’s a huge chain (which Forever 21 is) it could be a good position to learn from b/c you’ll probably be sent store to store.

Buuut from a styling perspective… none of the stylists I know or have worked with really needed to take this route. Sure it will help to gain experience as a stylist, but a job like this is a commitment, so it may not leave you room to explore other options or smaller styling gigs. Then again, with such a shitty economy, shutting the doors on a job offer is almost unheard of. So I say this… if the money is good, take it, but still actively pursue other, less corporate, styling gigs!

Heaven in a glass. Who knew? My girl Ashley g-chatted this to me today and immediately I thought a) how have I never had this before? and b) how have I never been to this site before? This genius of a drink was concocted by the lovely ladies of Fashionably Bombed (bookmarked faster than I could type “bookmark”). Consider this added to my list of things to do this weekend.

Bubble Gum Mojito
Makes 1
3 ounces Bubble Gum-Infused Vodka
1 ounce freshly squeezed lime juice
1 ounce simple syrup
A dash of grenadine (for color)
Club soda
Ice

Combine lime juice, simple syrup, and mint leaves in a highball glass and muddle ingredients together. Then add Bubble Gum-Infused Vodka and stir. Add crushed ice and top off with club soda and a dash of grenadine.

Bubble Gum-Infused Vodka
Makes 1 cup
10 pieces of Double Bubble Bubble Gum
1 cup vodka

Roughly chop gum and place into a jar with a lid. Add vodka and cover. Let sit for at least 24 hours. Shake before using.

hmmm…. moving to california on a budget is like an oxymoron. know this, it’s EXPENSIVE AS ALL HELL to live in this state.

i dont really have advice though b/c i’ve lived in cali my whole life, so i dont have experience “moving” here. just make sure you save save save before you move here. and if you have a car, prepare to get parking tickets. there is no escaping parking tickets in los angeles. lol, not sure if i was of any help! lol!

Hello, So I know that you work in PR/Marketing in Los Angeles and I'm currently a student majoring in fashion marketing and journalism I'm a junior graduating next spring and I really want to work out in LA next year therefore, I'm starting to look for possible jobs already ( doesn't hurt to get a head start!) so I was wondering if you have any advice and or any places I can look into. I really dont have much experience except for my major and one internship as a fashion stylist assistant,Thanks

the job market is tough in los angeles. it’s all about who you know, and even that sometimes isn’t enough. my best advice to you is to intern at a firm or job of interest. get your feet wet in the industry that interests you b/c you may find that once youre there, it wasn’t what you thought it would be. so internships help you test the waters in addition to helping you meet people and network. if you want to work in fashion, try fashioninternships.com (or something like that). I would also suggest being proactive. google firms and showrooms and walk in there with your resume and say youre interested in interning. they’ll appreciate youre eagerness to work.

most internships last about 3 months. if you’re lucky, they’ll hire you thereafter, but that isn’t too common. you may have to have a few internships under your belt or find a way to gain more experience before you land the gig you really want. as long as youre willing to grind it out, you’ll make it to the top. the sooner you realize that nothing is handed to you, the better.

can you break it down what it is that you exactly do? how you got where you are. Who or what are some of your inspirations etc?

i couldn’t break it down if i tried. there’s a lot involved with what i do so theres no definitive answer, but in a nutshell i’m a digital media manager. my job combines social media, pr, & marketing for clients in entertainment, film, & fashion.

as for how i got where i am… i’ve been in the social media game since before it was a “thing” (had a blog on xanga back in 03 and joined FB in 04). so that combined with my pr background and writing background has afforded me my position today.

inspirations? man, everyday is an inspiration. the people around me, all of the young creatives in LA inspire me. art, fashion, music, allathat inspires me. my mother inspires me. my struggle has inspired me. strong successful latinas inspire me. y’all with your emails and messages of love and kudos inspire me. i can go on for everrrr. ;)
